There have always been questions as to who are the richest people in the United Kingdom. So today, we will be looking at the top 10 richest people in the UK, their rank, and how they made their money. Contrary to many opinions the Royal family is not the only richest people in the UK.
There are people who are not related by blood to the royal family that has made huge money through legitimate means.

1. Gopi Hinduja and Family: £35 Billion
These are the richest people currently in the UK as of today. They made their money from the Mumbai-based conglomerate Hinduja Group which spans different business sectors ranging from media and entertainment, banking and finance, and energy. All these businesses around the world have 200,000 staff.
The leader of the family also known as the patriarch Hinduja’s chairman, Srichand Hinduja died at age 87. He was described by those who know him as a “visionary titan of industry and business”. The Hinduja family are Indians but they are citizens of the United Kingdom by birth.
2. Sir Jim Ratcliffe: £29.7 Billion
This Manchester-born businessman is the richest man in the UK. However, on our list of the richest people in the UK, he is the second richest. He is the founder and chairman of a global chemicals company called Ineos. This company was formed in the year 1998.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is currently battling the son of the former minister of Qatar, Sheikh Jassim, to take over Manchester United. He attended the University of Birmingham for his BSc degree and London Business School for his MSc.
3. Sir Leonard Blavatnik: £28.6 Billion
Sir Leonard Blavatnik is the third on our list of the richest people in the UK. He is a Ukrainian-born business magnate and philanthropist. He built most of his fortune in Russia. Sir Leonard Blavatnik invested most of his money into the entertainment industry so money comes from media and music investments.
He bought Warner Music in the year 2011 before taking it public in the year 2020. Sir Leonard Blavatnik attended many universities during his schooling days. These are Columbia University, Harvard Business School, and Moscow State University amongst others.
4. David and Simon Reuben and Family: £24.4 Billion
This is another Indian family on our list. These Indian-born British businessmen are the fourth most affluent people in the UK. However, they are the second richest family. David and Simon Reuben and Family made money through property and technology with their private equity and investment business called Reuben Brothers.
They also own 16 racecourses and five greyhound stadia in the UK through their company Arena Racing Company. Their other investment includes pubs, media, aerodromes, and data centers.
5. Sir James Dyson and Family: £23 Billion
Sir James Dyson and Family is the third richest family in the UK. However, they are the fifth on the list of the wealthiest people. James Dyson is an English inventor and entrepreneur. He is very popular for founding a technology firm called Dyson and inventing the Cyclone bagless vacuum cleaner in the 1970s.
Dyson employs more than 5000 engineers around the world. He is married with 3 children.
6. Lakshmi Mittal and Family: £16 Billion
This fourth richest family and sixth wealthiest people in the UK are of Indian descent. They are the owners of ArcelorMittal, the world’s largest steel and mining company. And this is due to the fact that he is from a steel lineage. Mittal separated from his siblings to Mittal Steel then went on to merge the company with France’s Arcelor in 2006.
As of today, Mittal left his CEO position for his son Aditya Mittal. However, he remains the executive chairman of ArcelorMittal.
7. Guy, George, Alannah, Galen Weston and Family: £14 Billion
According to this list, it has been proven time after time that it is easier to create wealth as a family than as an individual. The Weston family is the seventh of the richest people in the UK. The Westin family developed most of their wealth through their investment in retail.
The family has a stake in Associated British Foods which also owns Primark and produces sugar. It is run by their son, George Westin.
8. Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken and Michel de Carvalho: £13.1 Billion
Does the beer Heineken sound familiar to you? If it does then you probably know why this family is wealthy. Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken and Michel de Carvalho are a couple. They are the eighth richest people in the United Kingdom. Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken is a Dutch businesswoman.
She is also one of the richest women in the world after she inherited nearly a quarter stake in beer giant Heineken from her late father Freddy Heineken. Her husband who was a former Olympic skier Michel de Carvalho sits on the board of the business.
9. Kirsten and Jorn Rausing: £12 Billion
Although this is also a family, Kirsten Rausing also benefited from her inheritance. She become wealthy through a stake in her grandfather’s packaging business Tetra Laval, which revolutionized storing of drinks like milk and orange juice in cartons over glass bottles.
The Swedish businesswoman and her husband are heavily involved in horse racing. They both co-own Tetra Laval.
10. Michael Platt: £11.5 Billion
Michael Platt is the last on our list of the richest people in the UK. He is a Preston-born financier and the chief executive of hedge fund BlueCrestCapital Management, one of the world’s largest and top-performing investment firms. Michael Platt attended the London School of Economics and Political Science and Imperial College London.
Conclusion
As we can see from this list we can see that creating wealth as an individual is not easy. In fact, most of the people on the list created wealth as a family, increasing the wealth they inherited from their parents.
